The Sunnyland Neighborhood is centered between Cornwall Ave and I-5. Sunnyland was originally platted in 1889, however the majority of the homes were built in the 1920's. Most of the streets in this neighborhood have sidewalks with planting strips that make for great pedestrian buffers. The classic Craftsman style bungalow is the dominant type of home in the Sunnyland Neighborhood.

The southern border of the Sunnyland Neighborhood is zoned light industrial and is a great location for automotive and other light manufacturing businesses. There is also commercial zoning along Cornwall Ave and James St. In 2007, Trader Joe's renovated the strip mall located on the corner of Alabama St and James St. This renovation brought a needed facelift to the hub of eastern Sunnyland.

The Sunnyland Neighborhood is home to several of Bellingham's schools. Bellingham High School is located on the corner of Cornwall Ave and Ohio. Directly north of Bellingham High School is Assumption School and church. Sunnyland Elementary is also located within the Sunnyland Neighborhood.
