The Bellingham Central Business District is broken down into 18 different areas. The land use of these 18 areas include industrial, commercial and public.
The western shoreline of downtown Bellingham is occupied by the Port of Bellingham and includes the Bellingham Marina. Although there is some commercially zoned land in this area, the Port of Bellingham primarily uses this part of the city for marine industrial. Some of the bigger businesses in this area are Bellingham Cold Storage, Pacific Pearl, Bumblebee Seafoods & Vita Foods.
The Civic Center is located within the Central Business District. The Civic Center is where the Whatcom Museum of History and Art is located. Next to the Whatcom Museum of History and Art is Whatcom Creek and Maritime Heritage Park.
Along the eastern shoreline is where Georgia Pacific was formerly located. This property was recently purchased by the Port of Bellingham and is in the process of being planned for development. This is a very exciting part of Bellingham. Take a look at the current waterfront plans.
