Mt Erie is owned by the City of Anacortes. The 160 acre park is the highest point on Fidalgo Island. Mt Erie is located in the middle of Fidalgo Island off Ray Auld Drive and Heart Lake Road. Once you enter the park, you are permitted to drive your car all the way to the top. You are cautioned to follow the speed limit and drive slow, as there are pedestrian hikers and bicycles also sharing the narrow road. As you near the top of Mt Erie you will see some lookout points.

Burrows Bay and Rosario Strait Viewpoint

The first lookout point on Mt Erie overlooks Burrows Bay and Rosario Strait. From this viewpoint you can see all of the San Juan Islands and the eastern portion of Anacortes. Across Burrows Bay is the Skyline Marina and Washington Park. This is an amazing viewpoint, but keeping going up the Mt Erie road because the best views are still to come.


Deception Pass, Whidbey Island and Strait of Juan De Fuca Viewpoint

The second turn out on Mt Erie features some of the most spectacular views in all of Washington State. Looking due south, you can see Deception Pass, Whidbey Island, the Strait of Juan de Fuca and much more. The view from this point on Mt Erie is an overwhelming array of mountains, lakes, straits & islands. It is difficult to describe in words the beauty from Mt Erie.

Mt Baker and Fidalgo Bay Viewpoint

The third and final viewpoint of Mt Erie is located at the top near the radio tower. From this parking lot you can access hiking trails and fenced viewpoints. The northwest viewpoint looks out over Fidalgo Bay and offers a stunning view of Mt Baker. From this point you can also see the oil tankers drifting in Fidalgo Bay near the refinery.
